West-Eastern Divan Orchestra

At their traditional open-air concert at Berlin's Waldbühne, Daniel Barenboim and the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra welcome an old acquaintance and good friend: cellist Yo-Yo Ma was there when the orchestra was founded in Weimar in 1999 and has long been an honorary member. Together with young musicians from Israel, Palestine, and many other countries in the Middle East and North Africa, he will perform Antonín Dvorák's elegiac cello concerto. In keeping with the summer evening atmosphere, Mendelssohn's “Italian” Symphony, one of the most lyrical works in the orchestral repertoire, completes the program.
