Orchester der Deutschen Oper Berlin, Titus Engel
Licht auf Parsifal
Titus Engel
© Kaupo Kikkas
In the context of the German premiere of Mittwoch aus Licht at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, Titus Engel brings together the musical worlds of Karlheinz Stockhausen and Richard Wagner in this concert. Both composers not only shaped the music of their time but also proved deeply polarising, both aesthetically and socially. To this day, each is surrounded by an aura of mystique. The concept of art as religion and the heroic epic form the defining elements of their late works. The parallels between Michaels Reise and Parsifal’s quest for the Holy Grail are particularly evident in both composers’ affinity for religious spirituality.
