Berliner Philharmoniker: Gustavo Dudamel conducts Mahler’s Seventh Symphony

Gustavo Dudamel

– Gustavo Dudamel

Gustavo Dudamel is among today’s great Mahler conductors, and with the Berliner Philharmoniker he has repeatedly earned praise for interpretations that are as passionate as they are precise. This season, he returns with Mahler’s Symphony No. 7, with its two shadowy, atmospheric Nachtmusik movements. Dudamel has described the symphony as “cosmic” and as a “book of life”: “There is simply everything here: a funeral march, sarcasm, grandeur, chaos, beauty,” he says. The Venezuelan conductor has even discovered echoes of tango within this vast score.
