Leise Park in Prenzlauer Berg is a green space with a very special flair, as the park was created on a former cemetery.
The Leise Park (Quiet Park) bears its name for good reason and then again not at all: the park was created in 2011 on the site of the former St. Marien-St. Nicolai cemetery. Where once there was devotion and tranquillity, there is now the sound of children's laughter. But you can also easily find quiet corners here.
Leise Park is located in the popular district of Prenzlauer Berg near the Bötzowkiez neighborhood. Anyone who thinks that the prehistory of the site is no longer visible is mistaken. Parts of the burial grounds and individual graves have been left standing and make up the very special flair of the Leisepark.
The area is pleasantly wild and invites you to play and linger. The park was created by a residents' initiative. There were actually plans to build houses on the site.
The-Leise Park can be visited just as easily with a wheelchair as with a baby carriage via a barrier-free circular path. Old trees on the lawns create shady picnic spots. A nature trail provides information about the park's flora and fauna. The adjacent cemetery, which still exists, is enclosed by a solid fence.
