The last-minute visit of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Berlin causes closures in the government district.
The Berlin Traffic Information Center (VIZ) warned on the online platform Bluesky of short-term closures for vehicles of all kinds and pedestrians in the entire parliamentary and government district.
The VIZ cited the working visit of a state guest as the reason for this. It recommends avoiding the area as far as possible. Experience has shown that there may also be short-term cancellations and delays in S-Bahn and U-Bahn services. Selensky intends to personally take part in the video broadcasts on the Alaska Summit on the future of his country in the capital.
According to press reports, he is expected to arrive in Berlin at midday. Zelenskyy's press spokesman, Serhiy Nikiforov, confirmed the trip on Ukrainian television. The talks with European heads of state and government were initiated by Merz. The aim is to find a common line with US President Donald Trump before he meets Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin in the US state of Alaska on Friday.
