Tiergartentunnel reopened for heavy vehicles

Tiergartentunnel

The Tiergartentunnel in southern direction is open again for all vehicles.

After being closed to vans and trucks weighing 3.5 tons or more for more than half a year, the Tiergartentunnel in the direction of Kreuzberg has been reopened to all vehicles.

"Following the replacement and successful commissioning of repaired jet fans in the southbound direction, the operational safety of the Tiergarten Spreebogen Tunnel (TTS) is once again guaranteed," announced the Senate Department for Transport.

Lockdown since November 2024

"With today's dismantling of the temporary metal signs, the associated traffic restrictions for vehicles over 3.5 tons in the southbound direction have been lifted," the statement continued. Smaller cars have been allowed to drive through again since the beginning of December.

Smoke can be discharged again in emergencies

Due to problems with the ventilation systems, the Tiergarten Tunnel was completely closed to traffic in a southerly direction at the beginning of November 2024. Due to excessive vibration levels and material damage, several fans had been dismantled, which meant that the fire ventilation concept no longer worked for all traffic, it was said at the time. The repaired fans have since been reinstalled. This means that in an emergency, such as a truck fire, the smoke can be adequately dissipated.
