Sitting in the shade in the green and drinking cool water - the first so-called Cooling Point has opened in Mauerpark in Berlin-Prenzlauer Berg.
The State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lageso) announced that the temporary infrastructure measure to protect against heat should be in operation by mid-October. The "Cooling Point" can be used by anyone in public spaces.
The installation in Mauerpark is 25 square meters in size, barrier-free and can be used free of charge. From 2026, Lageso plans to further develop the Cooling Point with a spray mist technology that will provide additional refreshment on hot days. This is a pilot project that is part of the model project "Urban Heat Labs - heat prevention in urban districts and buildings" as part of the "Experimental Housing and Urban Development" program. It is funded by the Federal Ministry of Housing, Urban Development and Building.
