All 39 Berlin bathing areas are suitable for swimming.
For those who have not yet bathed and are not afraid of cool temperatures, now is a safe time, said Alexander Straßmeir, President of the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lageso).
The bathing season runs from 15 May to 15 September. During this time, the Lageso analyses water samples from the bathing areas every two weeks for possible germ contamination. The occurrence of algae, in particular toxic blue-green algae, is also monitored. The Lageso website provides regular updates on the quality of the water. Further information, such as water temperature and visibility depth, can also be found there. Swimming is not permitted in the Spree, canals, parts of the Havel, harbours, bridges, locks, jetties and ferries.
