If you want to go swimming in Berlin, you will have to be prepared for some significantly higher admission prices from May 5.
Berliner Bäder-Betriebe (BBB) is introducing a comprehensively revised pricing model based on the type of pool, length of stay and time of booking. At peak times, a day ticket for the indoor pool can cost up to 11.50 euros, as the BBB announced at a press conference.
The indoor pools and summer pools are divided into three categories. A visit to a small pool without any special attractions will cost less than a visit to a pool that offers more - such as a whirlpool or a slide. In addition, it will soon be possible to buy tickets for 90 minutes, 150 minutes or the whole day in the indoor pools. The tickets can be purchased up to seven days in advance and are not time-limited. One example: At Stadtbad Tempelhof (category 3), all-day tickets will be available for 6 euros from May 5, at Stadtbad Tiergarten (category 2) it will be 6.50 euros and at Stadtbad Lankwitz (category 1) 11.50 euros.
A day visit to the Staaken-West summer pool (category 3) will no longer cost 5.50 euros, but 6 euros. The price for the Wannsee lido (category 2) will rise by 1 euro and will cost 6.50 euros without a discount. Visitors to the Sommerbad am Insulaner (category 1) will soon pay the regular price of 7 euros, which is 1.50 euros more than before. When booking online, there will be discounts of between 5 and 20 percent in the outdoor pools, said Ricardo Haas, BBB operations manager. "The earlier I decide to visit the pool, the higher the discount," he explained. It is also cheaper when it is not very busy. However, visitors have to commit to a specific time slot. However, admission is then guaranteed, said BBB spokeswoman Kristina Tschenett. This was not the case before.
In the indoor pools, prices were previously based on the time of day. At Stadtbad Tempelhof, admission used to cost 3.50 euros until the afternoon and 5.50 euros for the main rate. With the new pricing model, visitors who only want to stay for a short time can save money in some cases: In category 3, for example, a 90-minute ticket will cost 4 euros and a 150-minute ticket 5 euros. The Badespaß ticket, a day ticket for three people, including at least one adult and one child, will be significantly more expensive. It will rise by several euros everywhere. At Stadtbad Neukölln (category 1), the ticket will soon cost 19 euros - 10 euros more than before. Category 3 tickets will cost 11 euros from May. This includes, for example, the Baumschulenweg swimming pool, where the ticket used to cost 9 euros.
