The Berliner Leben Foundation would like to help even more young people. According to Hans-Michael Brey from the board, the current two neighborhoods in which it is active will soon become 22.
During a district tour, the Senate visited the Urban Nation Museum For Urban Contemporary Art, one of the foundation's initiatives. The plans were announced.
A total of around 5,000 teenagers and young adults are currently taking part in the artistic workshops run by the organization founded by the state-owned housing company Gewobag. The Isigym boxing club on Potsdamer Straße is also one of the projects designed to help get young people off the streets. The foundation has been supporting charitable projects in the Schöneberg Nord district since 2021. The first initiatives in Heerstraße Nord in Staaken followed in 2023.
Under the motto "Loveletters to the City", the foundation strives to reach young people, get them excited about their neighborhood and introduce them to education and socio-political issues. By the end of 2024, the "Stadtraum!Plus" project had carried out around 144 activities in collaboration with over 80 partners. Around 3,900 participants have benefited from this, according to the foundation. Berlin Senator for Culture Joe Chialo (CDU) praised the work at the Urban Nation Museum, for example: "Not only is art exhibited here as a distillation of international products, but the connection to the citizens of the district is also promoted."
