«Neue Mitte Tempelhof»: New residential quarter with 500 apartments

The plans for the Neue Mitte Tempelhof district are one step further. The Senate has approved the draft development plan for the area around the town hall and the old town center.

There are plans for 500 apartments and a new cultural and educational center. Among other things, it will provide space for a central district library, an adult education center and a music school.

"Good signal for the whole of Berlin"

"I believe this is a good signal for Tempelhof-Schöneberg, but also a good signal for the whole of Berlin that we want to develop new, diverse urban districts," said Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) after the Senate meeting. This time, the members of the Senate were guests at Schöneberg Town Hall and the district mayor of Tempelhof-Schöneberg, Jan Oltmann (Greens).

Construction of the apartments from 2026

The new urban quarter will also include an extension to Tempelhof town hall and a new replacement building for the Tempelhof municipal swimming pool. The residential area of the new quarter covers an area of around 21,100 square meters. Construction of the first apartments is scheduled to begin in 2026. The project also includes several facilities for senior citizens and young people. This includes the construction of a new scout home in 2027. The construction of the new police station 4 is planned for the following year.

More green and recreational areas

In addition, the range of green and recreational areas is to be significantly expanded. A total of around 22,400 square meters are planned for public parks with playgrounds. The House of Representatives still has to vote on the draft development plan. Neue Mitte Tempelhof is one of two dozen new urban districts currently being planned by the state of Berlin.
