State Electoral Officer: No evidence of major errors in Berlin

Election result

According to Stephan Bröchler, the state electoral officer, no gross electoral errors have been discovered so far during the checks of the Bundestag election results in Berlin.

"I have no evidence whatsoever that can shake the election result in any way," Bröchler told the German Press Agency. "I assume that the election in Berlin was also conducted properly."

Recounts in individual constituencies

Nevertheless, the district electoral officers followed up even the slightest indication of possible discrepancies. This is a normal process after ballots. Most recently, the results of individual polling stations and postal ballots in Steglitz-Zehlendorf and Tempelhof-Schöneberg were recounted. According to the responsible district electoral officers, there were only minimal corrections to the results without any relevance to the percentage distribution of votes and mandates.

Final election results expected on March 14

According to Bröchler, these routine checks will also continue in other constituencies until next week. Individual polling stations would be recounted in Pankow and Lichtenberg, for example. Marzahn-Hellersdorf is still considering such a step. In the end, the final constituency results will be determined by the district electoral committees (March 4 to 6), then by the state electoral committee for the whole of Berlin (March 10) and finally by the federal electoral committee for Germany (probably March 14).
