Due to the wage dispute in the federal and state public sector, there will be strikes on Thursday and Friday at BSR, hospitals and water companies.
The warning strike at the Berlin city cleaning service is likely to affect most people. According to the BSR, waste collection, the collection of bulky waste, recycling centres, the Ruhleben waste-to-energy plant and street cleaning, among others, are likely to be affected by the strike.
It is expected that residual waste and organic waste bins and some recycling bins will not be emptied. Disposal will then take place on the next regular date. All recycling centres are also expected to remain closed. Public rubbish bins may not be emptied as a result of the street cleaning warning strike.
Planned, non-urgent procedures are being postponed at the Charité, a spokesperson said in response to an enquiry. "We regret this and ask for your understanding." However, time-critical tumour operations, transplants, operations on children and the treatment of patients with strokes, heart attacks and other emergencies will be carried out. The effects on the Vivantes clinics were not yet clear. However, no wards or areas would be closed, a spokesperson said. Reorganisation is being carried out to ensure patient care. If planned operations had to be postponed in individual cases, those affected would be informed individually.
There is also a strike at Berliner Wasserbetriebe. However, emergency plans are in place to ensure that water flows and wastewater is cleaned, according to a spokeswoman. The warning strike will therefore not be immediately noticeable here. There will also be strikes at Berlin's public swimming pools, some of which will open later or not at all, according to reports. The companies were unable to provide more precise details. The Studierendenwerk Berlin announced that there could be restrictions in the operation of individual daycare centres and that parents had already been informed. The canteens will be able to maintain their regular opening hours and the central telephone number of the customer centre will also be manned.
The warning strike had hardly any impact on the job centre's customers: experience has shown that few colleagues took part, said a spokeswoman when asked. They would be replaced at appointments and the job centres would be open as normal. In the nationwide negotiations, Verdi and the civil servants' association are demanding, among other things, eight per cent more money from the federal and local governments, but at least 350 euros more per month. There should be higher bonuses for particularly stressful jobs.
