The capital is bidding to host the Women's European Football Championship in 2029 with the Olympic Stadium, which the DFB wants to bring to Germany. This was decided by the Senate following a proposal by Sports Senator Iris Spranger (SPD).
The concepts and structures of last summer's European Men's Championship in the areas of security, mobility and sustainability could be largely adopted, it was said. Thanks to the investments made for the tournament, the requirements for the Olympic Stadium have already been largely met. The German Football Association (DFB) plans to announce a shortlist of potential venues on Friday. The DFB must submit the preliminary bid documents for the 2029 European Championship to UEFA by March 12. All final documents must be submitted by 27 August. The UEFA Executive Committee will decide on the organiser in December 2025. The European Championship is expected to be organised with 16 teams in eight stadiums.
