Postal voting stations are now open throughout Berlin. The state electoral administration points this out. They can usually be found in the district offices, in several districts also at other locations.
If you would like to use postal voting, you can have the postal voting documents sent to your home and then send them back, but you can also vote directly at a postal voting office.
In this case, the ballot paper is filled out in a voting booth. The postal voting documents can then be dropped into an urn. This eliminates the need to send them back by post, which can take several days. Stephan Bröchler, the state electoral officer, believes that postal voting on site is the safest option for postal voters. Due to the early Bundestag elections, the deadline for postal voters has been reduced from the usual six weeks to just two weeks.
The completed postal voting documents must be received by the relevant district electoral office by 6 p.m. on election day (February 23). Otherwise the votes will not be taken into account. It is also possible to post completed postal voting documents at home in the letterboxes of the postal voting offices and save time in this way. The locations of the postal voting stations in the districts are listed on the first page of the election notification. The opening hours, which may vary slightly from district to district, are also listed at the bottom. According to the state electoral administration, some districts have already started sending out postal voting documents or will start doing so today. A total of around 2.4 million Berliners are entitled to vote. State election director Bröchler considers a postal voter share of up to 50 percent to be realistic.
