Berlin's tax offices are among the fastest in the country. The average processing time per income tax return in 2024 was 47.2 days.

The figure has improved once again compared to the previous year (51.4 days), according to the internet portal "Lohnsteuer-kompakt.de". In a state comparison, the capital is in fourth place behind Hamburg, Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt - as it was in 2023.

Steglitz tax office particularly fast

Across Germany, the average value last year was 50.8 days. The differences are considerable depending on the federal state: in Hamburg it was 45.5 days, in Bremen, which came last in the state comparison, it was 79.9 days. There were also considerable differences within Berlin. The tax office in Steglitz was the fastest with only 30.9 days and the one in Neukölln with 38.8 days. At the bottom of the ranking were Marzahn-Hellersdorf with 56.0 days and Wilmersdorf with 58.1 days.
