The Berliner Stadtreinigung (BSR) is once again collecting discarded Christmas trees until January 21.
According to BSR, there are two collection dates per district. The exact dates can be found on the BSR website or requested by telephone.
The tree should be placed on the roadside the evening before - but no later than 6 a.m. on the day of collection. It should be completely undecorated. Tinsel must also be removed. In addition, the tree must not be wrapped and should not be shredded. According to BSR, the tree does not belong in the organic waste garbage can as the trunks and branches are unsuitable for fermentation in the BSR biogas plants. According to BSR, it collects an average of around 2,100 tons of Christmas trees in Berlin every year. The trees are shredded. Over two thirds of the shredded material is recycled in large composting plants. Just under a third is used to generate energy in regional biomass power plants.
