The victims of the Magdeburg death drive were remembered in the Berlin Memorial Church. Death and grief had taken away the anticipation of Christmas, said Pastor Sarah-Magdalena Kingreen in a communal prayer.

Alongside Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock and Federal Minister for Family Affairs Lisa Paus (both Greens), Berlin's Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) also took part in the service. On Friday evening, a man drove a car into a crowd of people at a Christmas market in Magdeburg. Four adults and one child died and 200 people were injured. The suspect is a doctor from Bernburg who is known as a critic of Islam and comes from Saudi Arabia.

Commemoration of the 2016 Christmas market terrorist attack

It was only on Thursday that the victims of the 2016 terrorist attack were commemorated in the Memorial Church in Berlin. Back then, a man drove a truck into a crowd of people at the Christmas market on Breitscheidplatz. Twelve people were killed, the 13th victim died as a result in 2021.
