Berlin launches an international competition for the design of the former International Congress Center (ICC).
Senator for Economic Affairs Franziska Giffey (SPD) and the Managing Director of Berliner Immobilienmanagement GmbH (BIM), Matthias Hardinghaus, want to present the plans for this on Monday, as announced by the economic administration."Here we go! The International Congress Center Berlin (ICC) is to be brought back to life," reads the invitation to the event.
In the so-called structured concept process, the best and most viable concepts for the ICC are to be sought internationally. "In future, the ICC is to be a place for art, culture, creative industries, innovation and congresses." The ICC building at the Funkturm in the far west of Berlin has been a listed building since 2019 and was once one of the largest congress centers in the world. It has only been used sporadically for years. Whether and how this can be changed is a recurring topic of discussion. In September 2023, the black-red Senate decided to hold an international competition for this purpose.
