Around a month after the call for funding for projects against anti-Semitism in Berlin, the cultural administration has drawn a positive interim conclusion.
‘The response to the call for funding has been very good. There is enormous interest in the programme,’ said a spokesperson for the cultural administration on request. Around 60 applications were received in the first funding round up to 15 August, which are now being reviewed. They cover a wide range of topics. The call for applications was launched in mid-July.
Since 29 July, organisations that campaign against anti-Semitism with public events, campaigns, film projects or political education have been able to apply. The cultural administration has set up a fund which, according to initial estimates, holds at least two million euros in total, as the spokesperson said in July. The deadline for applications is 30 September.
According to the press release, Culture Senator Joe Chialo (CDU) said: ‘Our funding is not only intended to send a clear signal against anti-Semitism, but also to target areas where anti-Semitism and hatred are successfully counteracted.’ The cultural administration is also planning a counselling centre against anti-Semitism in the cultural sector, for which sponsors can apply with a concept until the beginning of September.
