The Berlin Senate has laid important legal planning foundations for the new German Heart Centre on the Charité Campus Virchow-Klinikum. It approved the development plan for the areas in question in Wedding and forwarded it to the House of Representatives for a decision. The issue will be on the agenda there in September.
Senate Building Director Petra Kahlfeldt spoke of a milestone for the future development of the Virchow-Klinikum campus. "The new building lays the foundation for forward-looking healthcare and research in the field of cardiovascular diseases."
The construction project, which previously cost 521 million euros, started in April with the ground-breaking ceremony and is due to be completed in 2028. A 17-storey tower block with 320 beds for patients and 20 operating theatres is planned. There will also be another building and a helipad. The federal government is contributing around 100 million euros to the financing. Work on the project to date has been based on a partial building permit.
