Three years of Museum Sunday: over two million visits

Eintrittsfreier Museumssonntag

Ahead of the next admission-free Museum Sunday in Berlin this weekend, the organisers have presented a positive balance sheet for the first three years.

Since its launch in July 2021, two million visits have been recorded in the 80 participating museums. According to the information provided, they have been able to attend more than 5,000 events. On the first Sunday of each month, the museums organised workshops, guided tours or events related to their exhibitions.

Cultural participation for all

The common goal of Museum Sunday is to remove barriers to access in the long term and enable as many people as possible to participate in culture. According to the figures, the strongest Museum Sunday attracted more than 78,000 visitors in August 2023. "Museum Sunday is a real enrichment, especially for families, and contributes to the participation of everyone in the cultural wealth of the city," said Senator for Culture Joe Chialo (CDU) in a statement.
