Carrying irritant gas, knives or other dangerous objects is prohibited at several Berlin train stations this weekend.
This was announced by the Berlin Federal Police Directorate on Wednesday, which issued a corresponding ban. The aim is to prevent violent crimes and protect fellow passengers and police officers. According to the police, the number of violent crimes recorded at and around train stations has remained at a consistently high level for years.
The ban applies from March 22 to 24 on the nights from Friday to Saturday and from Saturday to Sunday, from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. on the following day and therefore ends on Sunday morning. It affects the train stations Alexanderplatz, Gesundbrunnen and Ostkreuz. The areas of the respective subway stations are excluded.
The Federal Police have announced corresponding checks for dangerous items. If the general order is violated, the objects can be seized and a fine imposed. The Federal Police Directorate in Berlin last issued such bans on carrying dangerous objects on Berlin rail services in October and November last year.
