Berlin S-Bahn north-south tunnel closed until mid-February

Due to construction work in the north-south tunnel of the Berlin S-Bahn, the line between Gesundbrunnen and Südkreuz/Yorckstraße will be completely closed for around six weeks from this Friday.

The S-Bahn lines S1, S2, S25 and S26 will stop running in the affected section until February 16, as announced by Deutsche Bahn. Replacement buses will be running. However, Deutsche Bahn recommends that passengers avoid the route by taking the Ringbahn or the S1 and S2 lines diverted via the Ring.

New intervals for the Ringbahn

According to Deutsche Bahn, the regional train lines RE8, RB10 and RB14 will also run between Südkreuz and Hauptbahnhof via Potsdamer Platz. During the construction work, the Ringbahn will only run every 5/5/10 minutes instead of every 5 minutes throughout. "This means that within 20 minutes, three trains will run in succession at intervals of 5 and 5 and 10 minutes," it said. Among other things, Deutsche Bahn plans to renew the rails and tracks during the construction work. Tunnels and stations will also be cleaned.
