Hundreds of thousands of Berliners and guests are expected again this year for the Carnival of Cultures. From Thursday to Tuesday, traffic participants must expect restrictions around Kreuzberg's Blücherplatz.

On the Whitsun weekend, road users should avoid the area around Blücherplatz and Südstern as far as possible. On Whit Sunday there will be further closures due to the street parade. Those wishing to attend the carnival should come by bicycle or public transport.

Road closures from Thursday

The first road closures for the street festival will be set up on Thursday from 10 am. This will affect Blücherplatz, Blücherstraße between Mehringdamm and Mittenwalder Straße, Zossener Straße between Gitschiner Straße and Baruther Straße, and Johanniterstraße between Zossener Straße and Brachvogelstraße. From 6 pm, Zossener Brücke, Hallesche Tor-Brücke as well as Tempelhofer Ufer and Gitschiner Straße towards Kreuzberg will also be closed from Mehringdamm to Alexandrinenstraße. The road closures will sometimes begin earlier and will last until 6 am on Tuesday.

On Saturday, the Children's Carnival of Cultures parades from 12 noon from Mariannenplatz via Mariannenstraße, Rio-Reiser-Platz, Oranienstraße and Wiener Straße to Görlitzer Park. On Whitsunday the big street parade follows: from 12:30 the colourful floats move from Gneisenaustraße to Herrmannplatz. The parade routes will be closed from 7 am and reopened from Monday morning (approx. 3 am).

Street festival with charisma

The Carnival of Cultures is one of the most popular street festivals in the capital. It has been celebrated traditionally at Whitsun since 1995 and attracts numerous Berliners and visitors to Kreuzberg year after year. In 2023, the carnival will be celebrated again in its usual form for the first time since the Corona pandemic.
