Significantly more bathing fatalities than last year

DLRG

In den ersten sieben Monaten diesen Jahres sind in Berlin elf Menschen in Seen und Flüssen ertrunken - und damit deutlich mehr als ein Jahr zuvor.

This is according to an interim report by the German Lifesaving Society (DLRG), which was published on Thursday. In 2021, five people had died while swimming by July. In both years, it was exclusively men. Most recently, a 30-year-old man drowned while swimming in Schlachtensee in early July.

At least 199 people drowned nationwide

According to the DLRG, at least 199 people drowned in bodies of water across Germany by the end of July this year. In the same period last year, there were 184 bathing deaths. The DLRG therefore advises caution and consideration when swimming.
