Today (June 05, 2022), the Berlin Senate will be discussing the situation of refugees from Ukraine in the capital as well as possible bottlenecks in the gas supply.
Since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, Berlin has taken in tens of thousands of people from there. Many of them initially found temporary private accommodation. According to information from the Senate, however, many of these people are now increasingly asking for other accommodations because the private accommodation they initially found was only a temporary solution. The Senate wants to discuss this as well as the continued operation of the Tegel arrival center.
Gas supply will also be a topic in the Senate. A lack of supplies from Russia has already led to a shortage of this important source of energy in Germany, and there may be a threat of even worse things to come: in a few days, the annual maintenance work on the Nord Stream 1 pipeline will start. As a rule, no gas will flow for ten days. The fear now is that Russia will not turn on the gas tap again this time. As a result, gas prices, which have already risen sharply, could skyrocket further - with fatal consequences for the economy and consumers.
