More taxis at the airport: Another 100 licences for drivers

Taxis stehen vor dem Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg

Passengers at Berlin Airport are to be better served by taxis.

An additional 100 taxis from the capital are now allowed to pick up passengers. In addition, 400 taxis from the Brandenburg district of Dahme-Spreewald, where the airport BER is located, are authorised to load passengers, according to the Senate Transport Administration. So far, 270 taxis from Dahme-Spreewald have received a corresponding concession.

Picking up guests only for Berlin taxis with airport licence

The agreement between Berlin and the Brandenburg district is necessary because the Passenger Transport Act stipulates that taxi drivers may only pick up guests in the district or municipality where they hold their licence. This sometimes means that taxis from Berlin without an airport licence are allowed to drive guests there, but then have to return without passengers.

Lack of taxis in the mornings and evenings

Before the airport opened, Berlin and the district had initially agreed that 300 taxis each from Berlin and Brandenburg would be allowed to pick up passengers there. The numbers were increased. But that was still not enough. According to the Senate, there is still a lack of taxis, especially in the mornings and evenings.
