In the Berlin-Brandenburg region, an official heat warning by the German Weather Service (DWD) is in effect until Sunday evening in view of midsummer temperatures far above 30 degrees.
The weather service announced on its website on Sunday morning that, as on Saturday, the capital, Potsdam and other districts were again expected to be very hot. The official heat warning is valid until 7 pm.
In addition, experts in many places again drew attention to the unusually high UV radiation and the need for appropriate protective measures. According to the forecast, temperatures in the north of Brandenburg will reach up to 32 degrees, in the south of Brandenburg and in Berlin peak values between 34 and 38 degrees. In the second half of the day, locally heavy thunderstorms with heavy rain are possible. During the night it will cool down considerably.
On Saturday, the DWD had already warned of severe heat stress in the region. In Berlin, for example, the hot summer weather attracted thousands of people to the public swimming pools - some of which were extremely crowded, often with very long queues. On Saturday, there were also two fatal swimming accidents at lakes in Berlin.
