Start of the 9-Euro-Action: Fuller trains expected

Commuters in Berlin and Brandenburg will have to prepare for even more crowded trains and buses during rush hour from this Wednesday.

As of midnight, the 9-Euro tickets are also valid in these two federal states. The Berlin public transport company (BVG) alone sold around 520,000 tickets up to and including Monday, according to the company. The Verkehrsverbund Berlin-Brandenburg (VBB) therefore expects "a significant increase in the use of public transport on some routes" in its area of responsibility.

Higher capacity utilisation expected on routes to popular excursion destinations

"In rush-hour traffic, the journeys that are already in high demand today are expected to be particularly affected," it said. "Also, especially day trips to attractive excursion destinations could lead to exceptionally high demand, especially on weekends and public holidays." This would particularly affect the routes from Berlin to the Baltic Sea, the Spreewald and the Fläming.

VBB runs additional trains

The VBB is therefore using either longer or additional trains on these routes. In Berlin, BVG has announced that it will staff 40 additional stations by the end of August, including at night. In the capital, too, the frequency of underground, bus and tram lines is to be increased. The campaign ticket allows people to use local public transport throughout Germany for one month.
