The restrictions caused by the Coronavirus pandemic have recently become less severe, which is also reflected in the rising number of accidents on Berlin roads.
The Office of Statistics recorded significantly more traffic accidents and injured people in January of this year compared to last year. The figures almost reached the pre-pandemic level again.
The police registered just under 9900 accidents in January. In 2021, this figure was only at around 7600. 128 people were seriously injured (up 68 percent) and 799 were slightly injured (up 45 percent). From March 2020, pandemic-related lockdowns and the corresponding reduced road traffic meant that the accident figures decreased significantly in somecases. Recently, however, traffic increased again.
