On Sunday, more than a hundred thousand people took to the streets of Berlin to protest against the war in Ukraine.
About an hour after the start of the demonstration, the police spoke of a number of participants in the lower six-figure range. At the same time, the influx of people from the surrounding area continued. The area between the Brandenburg Gate and Victory Column was already at full capacity under Coronavirus conditions. Therefore, the demonstration area was extended to the Tiergarten S-Bahn station and to the other streets around the Victory Column.
An alliance of trade unions, churches, initiatives, environmental organizations and peace groups had called for protests against Russia's attack under the slogan: "Stop the war. Peace for Ukraine and all of Europe". The organizers had initially expected around 20,000 participants.
