The Berlin Fire Department has declared a state of emergency due to storm "Nadia" on Sunday morning ( Jan. 30, 2022).

Stormy depression causes falling trees

The depression "Nadia" has caused numerous firefighting operations already in the night to Sunday. From Saturday evening (20 o'clock) to Sunday morning (7 o'clock) about 250 operations took place. According to the report, problems were mainly caused by fallen trees on sidewalks and roadways and the securing of loose building components.

Storm-related traffic disruptions

A Berlin S-Bahn train crashed into a fallen tree between Pichelsberg and Spandau. No one was injured, said a railroad spokeswoman on Sunday morning. According to the statement, the tree fell onto the tracks at around 11 p.m. on Saturday evening. Because of the removal, the S-Bahn line had to be closed. "Passengers of the S3 and S9 can change between Pichelsberg and Spandau on the U7 or on our replacement buses," the railroad spokeswoman said on Sunday morning. How long the closure would last was unclear.

Unplugging power plugs and antenna cables

Citizens of the capital are asked not to leave the house during storms and thunderstorms, as the fire department announced via Twitter. Power plugs and antenna cables should be disconnected from televisions and computers. Drains on balconies and terraces should be kept free of leaves and flowers. Sunshades and awnings should be closed.

Rescue forces focus on larger-scale operations

The fire department is asking citizens to handle minor water damage on their own. Accordingly, the rescue forces should concentrate on larger operations. Fires and emergencies can still be reported by calling 112. Rain and storm damage, however, would be dealt with according to priority.
