In light of the empty shelves at the clothing bank, the City Mission is calling for donations for homeless people.
The City Mission (German: Stadtmission) reported that there is currently a summer lull in donations. At Berlin's largest clothing bank on Lehrter Straße, people came to pick up clean clothes, but the shelves were empty.
It was said that this was terrible for people living on the streets. "They can't replace their sweaty, dirty clothes with clean, presentable ones, and end up walking around Berlin in the same clothes for days on end."
According to the City Mission, donations are distributed daily to about 180 people in need at the clothing bank. Among other items, T-shirts, underwear and baseball caps are urgently needed. Donations of shoes and sunscreen are also welcome.
Donations can be dropped off at the reception desk of the Berliner Stadtmission headquarters at Hauptbahnhof (Lehrter Straße 68, 10557 Berlin) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. For well-packaged donations, collection containers are also available in the parking lot outside of business hours. Another drop-off location is in Prenzlauer Berg: The Textilhafen (Storkower Straße 139 D, 10407 Berlin) is the logistics center for Komm & Sieh, the Berliner Stadtmission's inclusive enterprise. The Textilhafen accepts donations Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
