The so-called Hygiene Center for homeless people at Zoo Station celebrated its tenth anniversary.
According to the City Mission of the Protestant Church, which operates the facility, about 100 people take advantage of the opportunity to shower there every day. They receive free shower gel, shampoo, toothbrushes and toothpaste, as well as shaving cream, razors, towels, T-shirts, socks and underwear.
There are also restrooms on site. Since 2024, homeless individuals have also been able to receive professional foot care at the center. The facility is open every day from 8:30 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. During a visit to the hygiene center, Berlin’s Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) praised the dedication of the full-time and volunteer staff there. With great passion, they provide their guests with things that are completely normal for many people, but something special for those without a roof over their heads. Daily hygiene is part of human dignity.
