In view of the falling temperatures, the Berliner Stadtmission (Berlin City Mission) is calling for donations of warm winter jackets and coats.
"Many people in Berlin do not have their own home, and some do not even have a warm jacket to snuggle up in when it is cold and windy," said the Stadtmission.
To help these people, clean, intact, and warm coats and jackets will be collected from Tuesday to Thursday. Between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. each day, these can be dropped off at the collection point on Washingtonplatz at the main train station at stands marked with blue and red flags.
The donated jackets are then distributed at the Berlin City Mission's clothing store. According to reports, up to 180 people in need visit the store every day. The initiative, called "WrapUp Day," originated in the United Kingdom and is taking place in Berlin for the third time. It is backed by various organizations such as the Berlin City Mission and the British charity "Hands On London."
