As a public cultural institution, the Tieranatomisches Theater (Veterinary Anatomy Theater) combines scientific findings with artistic approaches.

Since 2013, the Tieranatomisches Theater has served as a venue for laboratory-style exhibitions. The focus is on projects that operate at the intersection of the natural sciences and design. These projects highlight new perspectives for museum work and provide research and teaching with a gateway to the public.

Early classical-style building of the Anatomy Theater

The Anatomy Theater is the oldest surviving educational building in the capital. It was built in 1789 and 1790. Architect Carl Gotthard Langhans modeled the design of the lecture hall after ancient circular temples and amphitheaters. The building combines functionality with aesthetics: the autopsy room, collections and anatomy theater blend seamlessly together architecturally.

Rotating Exhibitions at the Veterinary Anatomy Theater

The Hermann von Helmholtz Center for Cultural Technology hosts rotating special exhibitions in this architectural landmark. The projects are based on research and teaching at Humboldt University and focus on new exhibition practices. The Tieranatomisches Theater has already collaborated with various Berlin museums and institutions, artists, and filmmakers, and has staged numerous performances, readings and lectures. A free on-site audio guide leads visitors through the exhibitions.
