The Museum for Prehistory and Early History exhibits artifacts from the prehistoric cultures of Europe and Western Asia. The collection is housed in the Neues Museum.
The museum's collection comprises approximately 340,000 objects. Through selected exhibits in the permanent and special exhibitions, visitors can trace the development of European culture from the Paleolithic era to the High Middle Ages. Spread across three floors and a circular tour route, the museum offers a highly concentrated dose of history. The exhibits of the Museum for Prehistory and Early History are on display at the Neues Museum.
The collection focuses on the early history of Europe, from the Paleolithic Age to the Middle Ages. Highlights include Heinrich Schliemann's Troy collection, the Neanderthal skull from Le Moustier, the Bronze Age "Berlin Gold Hat," the treasures from Early Iron Age princely tombs in Slovenia and the rich grave goods from the Merovingian period.
