The Botanical Museum in the Botanical Garden offers fascinating background information on the plant world.
Please note: The permanent exhibition at the Botanical Museum is closed for renovation work and is expected to remain closed until 2027. Special exhibitions and the garden remain open to visitors.
43 hectares, 20,000 plant species, and 16 display greenhouses: Based on Adolf Engler’s plans, one of the world's largest living botanical exhibitions has been created in Dahlem. Visitors can embark on a botanical journey around the world or simply unwind and relax in the greenery away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The Botanical Museum, located on the edge of the Botanical Garden, is the only one of its kind in Central Europe. Its exhibits complement the garden's living collection.
At the Botanical Museum, visitors to the permanent exhibition can expect to find a wealth of information on botany: the exhibition explores fascinating insights into history, science, culture, biodiversity, plant morphology, reproduction and more. For example, it describes different plant species and displays them under a microscope, explains various habitats and the resulting plant characteristics, and provides in-depth insights into paleobotany.
A special museum highlight: In the "glass laboratory," visitors can literally look over the researchers’ shoulders. For safety reasons, access to the research labs is not permitted. However, large glass windows and informational displays offer a glimpse into the day-to-day work of researchers.
As if the wealth of botanical information on offer weren't enough, the museum hosts regularly changing exhibitions that, for example, explore a specific plant genus or focus on the life of an important botanist.
