The Myfest festival is intended to counteract the riots on May Day by replacing violence with peaceful celebrations in the neighborhoods around Kottbusser Tor, Heinrichplatz and Oranienstraße. The increasingly peaceful May Day celebrations in Kreuzberg since 2003 are primarily attributed to "Myfest" by the police, politicians and residents. The organizers want to involve more local artists, regional groups and sports clubs.
