The Bell Tower of Berlin Olympic Stadium catches the eye from afar. It is part of the Olympic complex built during the Nazi era. The platform of the bell tower offers a great view over large parts of Berlin.

The Bell Tower at the Berlin Olympic Stadium is both a landmark of the Olympic complex and an observation tower. It was built from 1934 to 1936 according to the plans of Werner March for the 1936 Olympic Games. During the games, important personalities, the police and reporters were able to observe the events from the Bell Tower.

Demolition of the Bell Tower

Towards the end of the Second World War, the bell tower at the Olympic Stadium was badly damaged and therefore demolished in 1947. The Olympic bell was so badly damaged when the tower was demolished that it could no longer be used as a chime. Today it stands on a pedestal as a monument in front of the south portal of the Olympic Stadium.

Reconstruction of the Bell Tower

At the beginning of the 1960s, the Bell Tower was rebuilt on behalf of the federal government - once again based on a design by architect Werner March. At 77.17 meters, the new bell tower is one meter taller than the original tower. A new bell was also cast.

Viewing platform and exhibition

The tower was completely renovated for the 2006 Football World Cup. Since then, an elevator has transported visitors quickly to the viewing platform. From here, there is a wide view over Berlin - even as far as Potsdam and the Müggelberge mountains on a clear day. In the lower area of the Bell Tower, the exhibition "Geschichtsort Olympiagelände 1909 - 1936 - 2006" provides information about the Olympic Games, the history of the tower and the entire site.
