Thunderful Games acquires Studio Fizbin

Through its German subsidiary Headup Games in Düren, listed Swedish publisher Thunderful Games is acquiring award-winning game developer Studio Fizbin, which operates a branch in Berlin in addition to its headquarters in Ludwigsburg (near Stuttgart).

The startup was founded in 2011 by three university graduates Alexander Piper, Mareike Ottrand and Sebastian Hollstein.

Their first joint project – the point & click adventure The Inner World – was a real coup for the founders together with Headup Games: the game won the main prize for ‘Best German Game’ at the German Computer Game Awards 2014. A year later, Studio Fizin secured the 2015 Computer Game Award in the category ‘Best Innovation and Technology’ for the Game of Peace, which was commissioned by the Münster State Museum of Art and Culture.

Since then, the team has released other games funded by Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg and the state of Baden-Württemberg – including The Inner World: The Last Wind Monk (2017) and Minute of Islands and Say! No More (both 2021).

Thunderful Games markets a whole range of other games from German studios, including The Curious Expedition (Maschinen-Mensch), Trüberbrook (Bildundtonfabrik) and Lonely Mountains: Downhill (Megagon Industries). The acquisition of Studio Fizbin brings publisher Thunderful Games’ in-house studio count to 11.
