  • Expansion in Berlin-Friedrichshain in full swing
  • Responsibility for games policy now consolidated in the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises
  • House of Games Berlin scheduled to open in 2026

Berlin, 4 March 2026 – House of Games Berlin will enter its final implementation phase in 2026. Since January, the House of Games Berlin has been under the joint responsibility of the state-owned WISTA Management GmbH (WISTA) and the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises. The flagship project is scheduled to open in 2026. Last year, the location in the LUX Quartier in Friedrichshain was announced.

In the preparations that have been underway since 2022, medianet berlinbrandenburg e. V. (medianet), as the regional industry network and lead project coordinator on behalf of the Senate Chancellery, together with game – The German Games Industry Association (game) and Ubisoft Berlin (ubisoft) as anchor tenants, have done crucial work to make the project possible. The Senate Chancellery was responsible for the necessary conceptual development of the preparatory and construction phases and provided the financing to enable a comprehensive community‑driven approach in the conceptual development and property search. During the preparatory phase, WISTA was secured as the project developer and operator of the House of Games Berlin.

House of Games Berlin is now in the implementation phase, with WISTA, as a state-owned company and operator of the property, having taken over full responsibility for the project as planned since the beginning of 2026. At the start of the new year, responsibility for games policy within the Berlin Senate was centralised in the Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises.

The Governing Mayor of Berlin, Kai Wegner: “The games and development industry is already an important economic factor in Berlin today – with around 250 million euros in annual turnover and more than 3,000 employees. We want to expand this potential in a targeted manner and secure Berlin’s position as Germany’s leading games location in the long term. With the House of Games, we are building a home in Berlin for companies, publishers and creative minds from the gaming scene in Germany and around the world. “I would like to thank everyone who is making the House of Games Berlin possible – I look forward to the upcoming opening!”

Mayor and Senator for Economic Affairs, Energy and Public Enterprises, Franziska Giffey: “The Berlin games industry has long been an important and highly innovative sector of the economy. It is therefore a logical step for the Senate to now place Berlin’s games policy entirely under the jurisdiction of the Department of Economics. With the House of Games Berlin, we are laying the foundation for a place where all the important players in the industry can come together, not only in Berlin, but as a Germany-wide contact point. We want to further strengthen Berlin as a leading location for the games industry with projects such as the House of Games and strong games promotion by the Medienboard. I would like to thank everyone involved for their very successful work on the House of Games Berlin so far, in particular the medianet network association, the game association and the company Ubisoft. We are now on the home stretch toward the opening of this unique flagship project for GamesCapitalBerlin and Germany.”

Jeannine Koch, Chairwoman of medianet berlinbrandenburg: “Over the past four years, medianet berlinbrandenburg has strategically designed and operationally implemented the development of the House of Games Berlin on behalf of the Berlin Senate Chancellery, thus laying the central foundations for this flagship Berlin project. Through targeted national and international networking and intensive public relations work, we have succeeded in positioning the House of Games Berlin at an early stage as a visible future project for the games and creative industries in the capital region. With WISTA GmbH, an experienced real estate operator is now taking over the future operation of the House of Games Berlin – an important next step in the implementation of this Berlin project for the future.”

The necessary expansion measures and discussions with potential tenants are currently underway. According to the current planning status, the first spaces should be ready for occupancy in the second half of the year.

Roland Sillmann, Managing Director of WISTA Management GmbH: “After completing the crucial preparatory work for the House of Games Berlin during the preliminary phase, we are now delighted to be able to take the helm for the concrete implementation. Together with the two anchor tenants, game and Ubisoft, as well as many other prospective tenants, we will take the final steps towards the opening to make the House of Games Berlin the beacon of the games industry that we envision.”
