Honig Games Investment

Berlin-based studio Honig Games has raised a pre-seed financing round led by Behold Ventures, with participation from IBB Ventures and a group of experienced business angels. The investment marks an important milestone for the young company as it prepares to bring its first game to market.

Founded by former Wooga developers Alasdair McMaster and Renan Weber, Honig Games is the latest studio to emerge from Berlin’s strong mobile games ecosystem. McMaster serves as CEO, while Weber leads the company’s technology development as CTO. Both founders previously gained several years of experience at Berlin-based developer Wooga, the studio behind the successful mobile title June’s Journey.

The company’s history began in 2021 with the founding of MetaBit Games GmbH. In April 2025, the business became Honig Games GmbH, establishing the identity under which the team is now developing its first original title.
GamingonPhone reports that Honig Games is pursuing a mobile-first approach while also developing its games with additional platforms in mind. The studio intends to combine community-driven sharing mechanics with AI-supported development processes to create and scale its projects efficiently.

“Something sweet is coming”

Honig Games has already provided a first glimpse of its debut project. Under the slogan “Something sweet is coming”, the studio’s website introduces a game titled Bistro Bay.

Initial visuals show a colourful cartoon-style world and a polished mobile interface. Further details about the gameplay, release date and platforms have not yet been announced. The pre-seed financing gives the young studio a strong foundation from which to continue developing the project and prepare it for the market.

From Berlin studio experience to a new company

The founding of Honig Games also demonstrates how Berlin’s established games companies contribute to the creation of new studios. Experienced developers gain knowledge, international contacts and production expertise at larger companies before using that experience to launch their own projects.

Berlin is one of Germany’s most important locations for mobile game development. The city is home to companies including Wooga, Kolibri Games, King, SOFTGAMES and Sandbox Interactive, alongside a growing number of independent studios and start-ups.

With two experienced founders, specialised games investors and its first project in development, Honig Games is now becoming part of this next generation of Berlin-based studios. The investment underlines the continued potential of GamesCapitalBerlin’s ecosystem to produce new companies, creative ideas and internationally oriented game productions.
