German Computer Game Awards

Great opportunities for Berlin-based studios at this year’s German Computer Game Award.

GamesCapitalBerlin is one of the major players at this year’s German Computer Game Award (DCP) in the Bavarian capital. Berlin-based teams and studios have received a total of 17 nominations.

Paintbucket Games leads the Berlin delegation with five nominations, including Best German Game. ByteRockers’ Games, Blue Backpack, and Happy Broccoli Games are also strong contenders in Munich. Happy Broccoli Games could even take home the Studio of the Year award to Berlin.

Flamehead Games, a studio that emerged from the DE:HIVE game development incubator at HTW Berlin, has been nominated for best prototype.

The 2026 German Computer Game Awards, sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space and the Bavarian State Ministry of Digital Affairs, will take place on April 29, 2026, in the “Herkulessaal” at the Munich Residenz—right in the heart of the Bavarian capital.

The following nominated studios and game developers will represent GamesCapitalBerlin at the awards ceremony:
  • Paintbucket Games (Berlin): The Darkest Files (Best German Game, Best Game Design, Best Graphic Design, Best Story, and Best Serious Game)
  • ByteRockers’ Games and Blue Backpack (Berlin): The Berlin Apartment (Best Graphic Design, Best Story), Constance (Best Debut), Nomination for Studio of the Year
  • Happy Broccoli Games (Berlin): Duck Detective: The Ghost of Glamping (Best Audio Design, Best Mobile Game), Nomination for Studio of the Year
  • Butter by the Fish and Noodlecake Studios: (Berlin): Flick Shot Rogues (Best Family Game)
  • Friedemann Allmenröder and Future Friends Games: (Berlin): Slots & Daggers (Best Game Design)
  • Thoughtfish (Berlin): How to God (Best Innovation and Technology)
  • Mostly Games (Berlin): Peppered (Best Story)
  • Anica Gritzki, Jennifer Seeber, Luca Schmidt, Lucas Thieme, Jan-Ivo Lattek, Julian Seidel (DE:HIVE @ HTW Berlin)/Flamehead Games UG: Cards and Cannons: Best Prototype

The Selection

Renowned gaming experts selected the nominees during several panel meetings based on criteria such as quality, innovation, playability, and cultural and educational value. A broader main jury then votes to determine the winners.

The “Player of the Year” title is determined by a vote. Here, game fans decide who wins the award. Click here to vote. Voting is open until April 14, 2026.

The DCP awards ceremony is organized by the Digital Game Culture Foundation. The German Computer Game Award is sponsored by the Federal Government, represented by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space, and by game – Association of the German Games Industry e. V.
