The capital’s games scene does not stop at the Berlin-Brandenburg pavilion. Berlin-based studios, publishers and service providers can be found across the gamescom halls – from major international releases to some of the event’s biggest indie areas.
One of this year’s most prominent releases with Berlin DNA is Ubisoft’s Rayman Legends Retold. The remake of the platforming classic will be one of the centerpieces of Ubisoft’s gamescom presence. Visitors can play the game in 20-minute couch co-op sessions at 15 stations in Hall 6, ahead of its release on October 1.
Berlin-based developer and publisher ByteRockers’ Games is taking over its own corner of the indie area in Hall 10.2 – complete with a massive castle-shaped booth that should be hard to miss. Four titles will be playable publicly: OKU, EXOVIA, The Regreening and DeeSicks. The Berlin-set cyberpunk action RPG NEO BERLIN 2087, published by ByteRockers’, will also be presented behind closed doors.
And there is plenty more Berlin indie talent to discover in Hall 10.2. At the Indie Arena Booth, Berlin-based Paintbucket Games will give visitors the chance to play its newly announced SOKO 1977: Anti-Terror Task Force, while serious-games studio Playing History is part of the lineup with Grenzgänger: From the GDR to the West.
Over at Home of Indies, another Berlin-born initiative, Flamehead Games will showcase its work. The six-person studio, founded by Game Design graduates from HTW Berlin, is currently developing the colourful roguelite tower-defense deckbuilder Cards & Cannons. Home of Indies itself is organised by Berlin-based communications agency Factory-C and returns to gamescom for its fifth edition.
Berlin’s games ecosystem also extends well beyond development and publishing. Altagram, the Berlin-based game localization, QA and audio production company, will be in Cologne from August 26–28.
Whether AAA, indie, publishing, localization or games services: the capital’s presence across gamescom reflects the diversity of the wider GamesCapitalBerlin ecosystem.
