The historic Schleusenkrug near Zoo train station is an institution of Berlin's beer garden culture.
In good weather, the barbecue station at the Schleusenkrug is a culinary highlight with a beer garden atmosphere. Meat loaf, merguez sausages and bratwursts are served from the grill in a roll. The menu also includes the popular Wiener-style schnitzel from Brandenburg pork with potato and lamb's lettuce, Schleusenkrug fish soup, salad bowls and vegan dishes. Freshly tapped beer, Rixdorfer Fassbrause and elderflower spritzer are just a small selection of the drinks on offer. In winter, special treats such as homemade apple strudel and coffee and tea specialties such as ginger tea, apple punch, chai latte and cortado are offered.
Younger guests will love the in-house play corner and an old boat that can be turned into an adventure playground.
Since 1954, the Tiergartenschleuse has been serving walkers and, in the past, ship passengers. The situation before reunification was particularly bizarre: in the basement, the comrades ensured smooth shipping traffic and on the upper floor, West Berliners enjoyed the sun, beer and hearty German food.
