In the middle of Spandauer See, the new Eiswerder island beer garden will open in April 2026 for anyone who enjoys a drink by the water.
In addition to fresh draft beer, selected wines and homemade lemonades are also available. The restaurateurs focus on pinsa, which is freshly topped and served crispy straight from the oven, whether vegan, vegetarian or with meat. In the afternoon, guests can enjoy coffee and cake. The grounds are lovingly designed with a sandpit for the little ones, table tennis tables and boules courts. From June onwards, public viewing of the World Cup will be possible on a large LED screen.
The 140,000 square meter island of Eiswerder belongs to Berlin's Hakenfelde district. It can be reached from the mainland on the east bank via the Kleine Eiswerderbrücke and on the west bank via the Große Eiswerderbrücke.
The island of Eiswerder has an eventful past. It was first settled in 1746 by Austrian migrant Philip Schupfer and his family, who were forcibly resettled from Habsburg Austria because they could not be converted to Catholicism. In the 19th century, the island of Eiswerder developed into an important military location and weapons factory. During the division of Germany, the West Berlin Senate stored its expanded Senate reserves in the former industrial facilities to supply the population in the event of a siege. From 1950 to the early 1970s, Artur Brauner used the rooms of the former powder and ammunition factory for the legendary CCC film studios. Since German reunification, the island of Eiswerder has developed into a new residential quarter and an attractive location for art and media companies with offices, studios, and restaurants.
