So-called tourist passes, tourist cards or city cards are increasingly popular with visitors. Depending on the scope of services desired, you can use public transport for the duration of your visit and enjoy reduced or free admission to museums, events, sporting activities and other attractions for a package price.

Comparing the different offers is worthwhile in any case, because the validity period, prices and services of the tourist passes can vary considerably. In the following three examples, the 72-hour cards and the 3-day cards are compared.

Berlin WelcomeCard

Price and brochure:
The Berlin WelcomeCard valid for 72 hours and local public transport fare zones A and B costs 29 euros per person. The ticket includes a printed guide with tips and tours, a removable city map for Berlin and Potsdam as well as a network map for local public transport. The validity period of 72 hours begins at the time of validation.

Reduced entrance fees:
The Berlin WelcomeCard grants discounts of between 25 and 50 percent for over 200 sights and attractions as well as discounts with various partners.

Where can I buy the WelcomeCard?
The Berlin WelcomeCard is available at Berlin Airports, vending machines, tourist information offices, public transport sales outlets, hotels and many other locations. It can also be ordered online.

Berlin CityTourCard

Price and brochures:
The Berlin CityTourCard for 72 hours, fare zone AB costs 24.50 Euro per person and consists of a ticket for public transport and a folding map.

Reduced entrance fees:
The company that sells the Berlin CityTourCard collaborates with around 40 partners, who grant a maximum discount of 50 percent.

Where can I buy the Berlin CityTourCard?
The Berlin CityTourCard can only be purchased via the provider's website. After ordering, buyers can print out a voucher and redeem it at a tourist information office or at Tegel Airport.

The Berlin Pass

Price and brochure:
The Berlin pass costs 124 Euro (as of 2019) and is valid for three consecutive days from the day of validation. It is therefore advisable to up the card as early as possible in the morning. It is valid in the ABC fare zone. Buyers also receive a printed guide.

Notice:
"The Berlin Pass" is issued by a company based in Britain and is aimed at tourists. It has nothing to do with the "berlinpass", which the city of Berlin offers to Hartz IV or welfare recipients.

Reduced entrance fees:
The Berlin Pass allows holders to visit about 50 sights and attractions for free.

Where can I buy The Berlin Pass?
The Berlin Pass can only be ordered via the Internet and must be collected from a central location in Berlin. It can also be sent by post for a fee.

What do I want to do in Berlin?

If you want to save money with a tourist card, you should check exactly what the individual passes offer and how much of the sights you actually want to visit. So ask yourself if you really need the discounts to justify the purchase price. Also important: Since the use of the public transport is free of charge for holders, this alone could justify the purchase of a tourist pass.
