Tales not told – Sechs Skelettdarsteller*innen halten und betrachten ein aufgeschlagenes Buch mit tanzenden Skeletten. Alle wirken fröhlich und musizieren.

In Tales Not Told, the string quartet Anadolu Quartet Europe, together with illustrator Ernesto Herrera Ortez and singer and intercultural presenter Gamze Karaca, tells the stories of musicians and peoples who have been persecuted, displaced, censored or never truly recognised for their work. The one-hour programme features pieces in languages such as Kurmanci, Zazaki, Turkish, Laz, Ladino, Arabic and Armenian. Between the pieces, Gamze Karaca recounts short stories about these musicians and peoples, whilst also weaving into her narratives the life stories of the quartet members on stage, who have themselves left their home countries or are the children of immigrant women.

To offer the audience a visual dimension to the content, illustrator Ernesto Herrera Orta draws pictures relating to the stories live on stage, which are projected onto the wall using a projector. This also makes the programme an entertaining experience for younger audiences.

Tales Not Told was created with the support of the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Social Cohesion as part of the so-called IMPACT programme. This programme specifically promotes artistic formats that can integrate different cultures, whilst also breaking down barriers for people with disabilities. That is why Gamze Karaca also acts as a presenter for people with visual impairments, describing the visual content.

The Anadolu Quartet was founded in Turkey by the violinist and musician Ahmet Tirgil. The string quartet is known for its interpretations of Anatolian folk songs using classical instruments and regularly tours Turkey with various guest musicians. The Anadolu Quartet Europe also features the violinist Dorotheé Royez, the violist Theresa Burggaller and the cellist Zeynep Akdil.

The performance on 7 November 2026 at 4 pm is suitable for young people aged 8 and over!

The performances are funded by the Treptow-Köpenick District Office as part of the Integration Fund – a district neighbourhood programme – using funds from the Senate Department for Labour, Social Affairs, Equality, Integration, Diversity and Anti-Discrimination. Many thanks!
